Spondylolisthesis is the displacement of the vertebrae in any part of the spinal column. The disease is quite serious and can lead to serious consequences, therefore it must be treated in a timely manner. How to treat a misaligned spine? The methods and approaches in the treatment of this condition are described in this material.

TREATMENT METHODS

What if there is a dislocation of the spine? Spondylolisthesis is treated in a variety of ways. Conservative drug therapy, manual therapy and massage, physiotherapy exercises and gymnastics are of great importance.

In the most severe cases, surgery can be used. Traditional methods are not able to correct the situation, but can be used as an additional method, only with the permission of the attending physician.

It is important to treat this condition in a timely manner, as it can lead to unpleasant and even serious health consequences, up to paresis and paralysis.

MEDICINES

Drug treatment is aimed at relieving, and over time, completely relieving pain symptoms, as well as relieving inflammation of the nervous tissue. In the early stages of the development of pathology and with a slight displacement, such treatment is sufficient.

To relieve inflammation, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used, which relieve not only inflammation but also pain. Depending on the patient’s condition, the treatment of spondylolisthesis with their help is carried out according to different schemes:

  1. Ibuprofen or Nurofen tablets are taken three times a day, one piece for up to 14 days;
  2. Diclofenac injections in dosages calculated based on the patient’s weight, once a day for up to 10 days.

Ointment in this case is useless to use. If anti-inflammatory drugs do not have a sufficient analgesic effect, then Novocaine’s solution can be administered as needed (usually in the first 5-7 days).

Also, when treating a displacement of the spinal disc, it is important to restore the normal state of the nervous tissue. For this, vitamins and minerals are prescribed that affect it. Particular attention should be paid to magnesium and potassium preparations, nicotinic, and folic acid.

MANUAL THERAPY

The main method of this type used for this diagnosis is reflexology. The most commonly prescribed acupuncture. The method consists in the introduction of needles under the skin in strictly defined places. This method of oriental medicine for this pathology is often prescribed by doctors of the “western” orientation.

Thanks to acupuncture, it is possible to activate the blood flow to the affected areas, thereby improving the condition of the tissues. Also, with the correct installation of the needles, it is possible to achieve a significant reduction in intensity or completely get rid of the pain.

All methods of manual therapy can be carried out only during periods without exacerbations since at other times they can only harm. It is important that they are performed by a professional.

MASSAGE

By the principle of its action, this method is close to the previous one. It has the following types of positive effects:

  1. Increases muscle tone, increasing their ability to “hold” the vertebrae in place;
  2. Increases blood flow to this area, normalizing the state of the nervous tissue;
  3. Improves the condition of the nerve tissue by physically releasing pinched areas;
  4. Sometimes it allows physically to gradually restore the correct position of the vertebrae.

A complex of massage methods and techniques is prescribed by a specialist depending on the location, severity and causes of the process. Such an effect should also be performed strictly by a specialist and strictly during periods when there is no exacerbation.

OPERATIONS

Surgery for spondylolisthesis is rarely used, since it is quite difficult. Therefore, it is prescribed only if there are very severe symptoms and the complete ineffectiveness of other methods of treatment. The meaning of the intervention is that special metal implants are installed in the displaced vertebrae, which “pull” the vertebrae to their normal position and support them in it. During the intervention, the following positive effect is achieved:

  1. Restore the intervertebral space, and hence the flexibility of the spine;
  2. Release the nervous tissue, removing pain and restoring sensitivity;
  3. Return the vertebrae “in place”, correcting the posture.

Surgical intervention can be carried out only after the full range of drug treatment has been completed, since it relieves inflammation. And the operation can be carried out only in his absence. Medical treatment also continues during the recovery period.

The recovery period is quite long, since the intervention is difficult. But immediately after it, pain and severe symptoms disappear (except for cases when severe damage to the nervous tissue has developed and a stable pain syndrome is formed).

In the early stages of the recovery process, bed rest is shown. In the later stages, it is recommended to use manual and reflexotherapy, massage according to a special complex. Physical therapy plays an important role, a set of exercises for which is prescribed by a doctor.

TRADITIONAL METHODS

If a disc in the spine has flown out, folk methods will not be able to completely cure this condition. But, with the permission of the attending physician, they can be used as additional ones.

  • Prepare mustard ointment by mixing 50 g of mustard powder, two eggs, 20 g of alcohol and some camphor. Apply it once a day for two hours, then wash and wrap the area with a woolen shawl;
  • Mummy alcohol solution has an anti-inflammatory effect. Apply it as a rubbing once or twice a day;
  • The raw potato compress can be done once a day for 2-3 hours. Apply cut potatoes to the affected area, cover with plastic wrap and secure with a woolen scarf.

The use of any such method should be coordinated with a specialist and serve only as an addition to the main drug treatment.

EXERCISE AND GYMNASTICS

A set of exercise therapy exercises is prescribed by a specialist. Usually, it includes the following types of activities:

  • Healing walking;
  • Hanging on the horizontal bar;
  • Exercises on a gymnastic ball to stretch the spine.

The first exercises are performed while lying on your back to relieve stress on the spine. You should avoid exercising during an exacerbation. Do not lean more than 15-20 degrees.

OUTPUT

Even at an early stage in the development of pathology, when the symptoms have not yet become pronounced, the condition causes significant harm to health, and also tends to progress. For this reason, it is necessary to diagnose it in a timely manner and begin treatment. With the timely initiation of therapy, it is possible to avoid serious surgical intervention, therapeutic measures have a good result and do not take too much time.

The situation is worse if the state is sufficiently running. With this course of the disease, not only does it itself cause significant harm to health, but treatment is very difficult to tolerate, it takes a lot of time and effort.
