Gout is a serious disease characterized by impaired protein metabolism in the human body. In this case, the blood always contains an elevated level of uric acid, urate is deposited in the tissues, clinically, the disease often manifests itself in the form of recurrent acute arthritis. This disease cannot be completely eliminated, but the frequency and duration of periods of exacerbation can be significantly reduced. For this, it is very important to adhere to the correct diet.

The goal of therapeutic methods for gout is to reduce the volume of various uric acid compounds in the body. Therefore, patients are prescribed modern drugs that prevent the formation of the above acid, as well as contribute to its effective removal from the body.

Taking such medications is combined with a sharp reduction in purines coming from food. To do this, first of all, animal fats, all kinds of animal proteins and necessarily carbohydrates are removed from the patient’s diet.

Foods That You Need to Exclude from Gout

With gout, the patient, first of all, will have to abandon all kinds of smoked meats, any kinds of sausages, salt, legumes. You can’t eat fatty meat products, especially the offal and meat of young animals, as well as fish.

It is necessary to completely abandon heavy foods such as mushrooms or lard. With gout, you should not sprinkle food with a variety of seasonings and hot spices. In this case, an exception are bay leaves and table vinegar. In addition, the patient must abandon strong alcoholic beverages, chocolate, cocoa, strong tea, and coffee. Cheeses of savory and spicy varieties are also on the list of products that contribute to the development of exacerbations of the disease. In addition, one will have to abandon rich meat soups and broths cooked on meat.

Foods permitted in limited quantities for gout

Patients with gout can dilute their menu with certain products, strictly limiting the amount of their consumption. Among these products are non-skim milk and butter. True, they can be used only in the form of additives to the main dish, for example, to porridge. You can also eat boiled poultry and fish with caution, it is better if it is trout or salmon. In moderation, you can enjoy tomatoes, ordinary cauliflower, any herbs, juicy radishes and turnips. Of fruits, one must be extremely careful with plums.

What to eat with gout?

What should the patient’s menu with gout consist of? First of all, it should be rich in a variety of vegetable soups, it can also be used with cereals, sea cephalopods, and crustaceans, low-fat fish species, rabbit meat, cereals and pasta, low-fat dairy products such as yogurts, sour cream, cheeses. Food without fear can be flavored with dill, seized with black and white bread. Animal proteins should be replaced with vegetable ones.

Eggs are allowed, but not more than once per day. The menu can be replenished with any vegetables, except those that are prohibited. And also green apples, any berries except raspberries, oranges, tangerines. Dried fruits are very useful, with the exception of raisins, as well as honey, nuts, seeds. From sweets, you can enjoy marshmallows, marmalade, and jam. Food can be prepared in both butter and vegetable oil, but refractory fats, such as pork or lamb, should be completely abandoned.

As for drinking, you need to give preference to green tea, tea with milk or lemon, juices, any decoctions of healthy plants. In addition, you can drink fruit drinks, kvass, compotes from various fruits and berries. It is useful to use specialized mineral water and fresh cucumber juice.

Gout fasting days

It must be remembered that with gout it is recommended to conduct periodic fasting days. At the same time, you can use only one type of vegetables all day, for example, limit yourself to potatoes or green apples. If it is difficult to eat only one product during the day, you can mix several types of vegetables or fruits and eat them in the form of salads. You can also choose a milk, kefir or cottage cheese diet. At the same time, various sides of the metabolic process are unloaded, which is very important for patients with gout.

For fasting days, you can use the rice-apple diet. To do this, boil 75 grams of rice in milk and take it in small portions. In between, you can eat apples, both raw and in the form of compote. By the way, their number should not exceed 250 grams. And when cooking compote, you must completely abandon sugar.

It should be noted that although patients are recommended to conduct contrasting fasting days, completely hungry days are strictly prohibited. It is also impossible to arrange courses of therapeutic fasting because due to the complete cessation of food intake in the body, uric acid increases sharply in the blood. As a result, an attack of gout begins.

Features of the menu for gout

For patients with gout, you can recommend the following option for a daily diet. Breakfast should always consist of vegetable salad, delicious carrot and apple pudding, one soft-boiled egg, and weak tea. By the second breakfast, you can cook an unsweetened compote of rose hips. Lunch should be from milk soup with pasta, simple pancakes, jelly. As an afternoon snack you can eat fresh apples. And for dinner you can enjoy cheesecakes, stuffed cabbage without meat, drink weak tea. Before going to bed, drink a decoction prepared using wheat bran.

When compiling a menu for a patient with gout, it is important to consider the presence of other chronic diseases. So, for example, if a patient has high cholesterol, then he should not eat yolk at all, and if he suffers from diabetes, then flour and bakery products should be taken in limited quantities, and sugar and sweets should be completely excluded.

Often gout occurs in combination with obesity. In such cases, a special diet is prescribed, called diet number 8 by medical personnel. It largely excludes the consumption of meat and fish and involves the frequent holding of fasting days, up to four times a week. In general, patients with gout are recommended to lose weight, because of the high weight, the risk of frequent attacks increases. But at the same time, weight loss should not be too sharp, it should occur smoothly and imperceptibly.

And of course, with gout, you need to remember that the success of treatment depends on its complexity. Therefore, you should not be limited to one diet, even if it is chosen correctly, taking into account all the characteristics of the body. It is possible to recommend the use of various physiotherapeutic procedures, and you can also do physical therapy, which is very important for strengthening the body. True, before this it is necessary to discuss this with your doctor.

However, such procedures are prohibited if the patient has a period of exacerbation of the disease. At such moments, physical rest is recommended, the use of warm warming baths and compresses, heat. Walking on the street has a beneficial effect on the body, in particular before eating, or immediately after eating.

And undoubtedly, you should always keep in mind that gout can be controlled if you start to pay attention to your health in time. Timely consultations with a doctor, modern medication and physiotherapy, the right diet – and you will forget about your illness for many years, you can lead a full, completely normal life.
